John A. Bogardus Jr.
Jack Bogardus’ insurance career spans more than 40 years. He joined Alexander & Alexander as a trainee in 1950 and spent his entire professional career with the firm. Rising through the ranks, he held the positions of Vice President (1962-73), Executive Vice President (1973-77), President and Chief Operating Officer (1977-78), President and Chief Executive Officer (1978-1982), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (1982-1987), Chairman of the Board (1987-1988), and Director (1963-1995).
Respected as well outside of the insurance industry, Jack has served as a Director of Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc.; Security Capital Corporation; and United States Surgical Corporation. He was a Trustee of Pomfret School and also held leadership positions in non-profit organizations in the town of Greenwich, Connecticut
A featured speaker at insurance industry meetings, Jack is the author of articles in various professional journals. He served as a Director of the Insurance Brokers Association of New York and a Director and Chairman of the governing committee of the National Association of Insurance Brokers. He was also a member of the US Chamber of Commerce Insurance Committee, and a Board member of the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and of the Insurance Institute of America.
Born in New York City, he was graduated from Princeton University in 1950. He served two tours of active duty in the US Navy, the first as an enlisted man, subsequently as an officer.
Robert H. Moore
Robert Moore was a colleague of Jack Bogardus for a quarter of a century. He worked for Alexander & Alexander from 1977 to 1995 and was simultaneously Senior Vice President, Corporate Relations, Alexander & Alexander Services Inc. in New York City, and Chairman & President of A&A Government and Industry Affairs Inc. in Washington, D.C. In 1985, Robert was elected President of the National Association of Insurance Brokers and from 1989 to 1993 served as Chairman of that organization’s Past Presidents’ Advisory Council.
He has written and spoken extensively on corporate and public policy issues. As The Conference Board’s emerging issues coordinator, he identified and responded to public policies relevant to the business community. He is co-author of School for Soldiers: West Point and the Profession of Arms, which was selected as a New York Times “Noteworthy Book.”
Robert earned a Bachelor’s degree from Davidson College, a Master’s from the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill, and a Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Commissioned as a U.S. Army officer, he taught at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and was a tenured Associate Professor on the graduate faculty at the University of Maryland.
Since 2003, he has been President & Chief Editor of PMR Communications Group. His lead projects have included providing consulting & editing support for Paul Leonard, former Board Chair, Habitat for Humanity, International, as well as for the seminal “Faulkner & West Point at 50” conference (U.S. Military Academy). He has given similar support to the International Big History Association (Bill Gates/Big History Project) and to Joseph Ellis, American Dialogue: The Founders and Us, a New York Times 2018 Book of the Year.
